The importance of the Sudanese livestock production
Sudanese Minister of Livestock Dr. Faisal Hassan Ibrahim insisted on the importance of the Sudanese livestock
production which is considered a vital economic and social resource.
Speaking to Arabstoday on Thursday, Dr. Faisal Hassan Ibrahim said that developing this sector was one of the ministry’s priorities. The minister said the government intended to reach its target though the development of international and regional cooperation. Hassan Ibrahim also mentioned the importance of research and development.
In 2011, Sudan’s export revenue hit $333 million in 2011, and reached a historical $381 million in 2012 with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Malaysia, and Oman, as its main clients.
The Sudanese minister added that they have created a development fund to finance livestock projects in the country. So far, the results are “positive”, the minister said adding that they intend to widen its role in the next few months.
Sudan participated in all regional and international meetings and conferences about livestock, the minister emphasised, saying that it reflects the government’s efforts to fight diseases and minimize their effects on livestock production.
The Sudanese minister told Arabstoday that the country livestock production was also suffering from a lack of cooperation from federal governments and a lack of communication between local authorities and the governments.
