Borai demands amendment to education budget to 180b pounds

Quality committees in the Egyptian parliament started discussing public budget project for 2017/2018, where Education Committee insisted on its opposition stand against public budget items included in this sector, which made some PMs threaten to quit in case there will be non-compliance to constitutional entitlements.

Deputy of the Education Committee in Parliament, Abdulrahman Borai said in a statement to “Arab Today” that, the committee won’t approve any budget less than 180 billion pounds, denying the constitutional entitlement that says, the educational budget will be 130 billion pounds, adding that this could have been approved before the pound floatation, but the situation now has changed. He aslo asked the parliament members to decline the public budget in case the government refused to increase education financial allocations.

Borai said that, he has met the teachers’ representative Khalaf Al-Zanati to organize a conference under the parliament supervision to discuss the new educational law that will be passed soon. He added that, minister of Education, Tarek Shawky asked to withdraw this new law to made amendments such as, high school new system, confirming that, the committee has given the minister 3 months to finish this amendment.

Borai also demanded the return of school meals at the beginning of next year in order to fight malnutrition among children under the spread of anemia, confirming that, these meals must be prepared in a healthy manner in order to be distributed in schools.
