Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam said there is a high need for Islam to confront extremism and uproot it as well as spread the moderate thought of the religion.
In an article published in The Start newspaper of Kenya, Allam added it was time to take the responsibility of confronting terror and work hard to save the world from that phenomenon.
Murder and terror cannot be part of any religion, said the Mufti, adding that Islam highly respects human life.
Egypt needs world support in its war on terror, he said, noting that the international community must cooperate to counter such threat.
