Cairo - Arab Today
The Secretary General of the Arab League condemns a Houthi attack that targeted an Emirati ship carrying aid Saturday in the Bab al-Mandab strait, a spokesman said Sunday.
In a statement, Spokesman for the AL chief Mahmoud Afifi said such terror attacks violate the international law and are unacceptable under any pretexts.
The spokesman considered the attack a dangerous sign of threats could be imposed on civil and commercial vessels passing via the Mandeb Strait, which is one of the most important international shipping lanes.
The Arab League urged the UN and the Security Council to move effectively in order to put an end to the terrorism practiced by the Houthis their supporters.
Providing protection and security of international navigation is one of the intrinsic responsibilities of the UN system, the spokesman said.
Such treats must be firmly addressed, he added.
The AL spokesman said parties that provide the Houthis with arms should be also held accountable.
