What women really want on February 14  Choosing the perfect Valentine’s gift for your partner is a stressful task for any man. And while most assume that their ladies are hankering after expensive lingerie and diamonds, a new survey has revealed that all women really want for Valentine’s Day is a hug.The findings by the British Heart Foundation show that given the choice, 90 percent of women would prefer a thoughtful, romantic gesture over a luxury gift like diamonds. Most women would apparently be happy with a budget-friendly cuddle or a handwritten poem. The study found that a quarter of women would like their partner to write them a romantic poem, while eight per cent are hoping for a passionate embrace. “This survey shows that you don\'t have to spend large sums of money to woo your other half this Valentine\'s Day. In fact, romantic gestures like writing a love note or even just a hug can make your partner\'s day,” BHF Retail Director, Mike Taylor said.
According to the survey, not all women would be happy with just a humble hug, with 25 percent of female respondents admitting that they would like to be whisked away on a luxury trip abroad for Valentine’s Day.
Meanwhile, the figures also revealed what men believe women want on the day of love. One in ten men believe that cooking dinner is the way to a woman\'s heart, while a similar number thought that expensive jewellery or a day out shopping were guaranteed to impress their partners.
Surprisingly, five percent of men think that doing the housework is the most romantic gesture they could possibly make.
