Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba

Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba has apparently fallen in love with the northern Moroccan city of Tangier.

Bongo, a close friend of Morocco and King Mohammed VI, is spending his summer holiday in the kingdom with his wife and son.

During this time, he has travelled around the northern region, visiting Medieq, Tangier, Chefchaouen, and Larache.

But it is Tangier, where he has been staying with his family, that he reportedly most enjoyed, using the opportunity to walk around the city, just like a random tourist, especially in the medina.

An habitué of the city of Marrakech, Bongo is discovering Tangier, one of the kingdom’s most beautiful cities.

During his stay, he has been to the Tangier’s Museum of Mediterranean Cultures. According to Mehdi Qotbi, the president of the National Fondation of Musuem (FNM), the Gabonian president was pleased with he saw there.

“This is the first time that he has visited this museum, which has just been renovated. He was happy with the quality of the scenography,” Qotbi told French magazine Jeune Afrique.

In addition to Bongo, another head of state is currently spending his holiday in Tangier. Saudi King Salman arrived in Tangier on Monday for a month-long stay.

The Saudi king owns a palace in the city where his brother, the late King Abdullah, used to spend his holidays
