Patna Dreaded gangster Babloo Dubey

Patna Dreaded gangster Babloo Dubey was on Thursday shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants while he had been brought to the court for his production in a murder case. The victim faced more than 40 cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion, according to the police.

The incident took place in the Betia court premises in West Champaran district Thursday where he had been brought for production in the court in connection with the murder of a village council chief. Police said the criminals pumped five bullets into his body as he collapsed on the ground before being rushed to the hospital.

Witnesses said as the gangster came out after his production in court, the waylaying criminals fired shots at him as screaming villagers ran helter skelter for safety. Police accompanying him appeared helpless in the face of flying bullets.

Taking advantage of the situation, the assailants came near him and pumped many bullets in to his body from close range, leaving him dead on the ground. After committing the crime, the assailants fled on the bike.

“The victim was a dreaded gangster. The police are conducting raids to nab the absconding criminals,” the local district superintendent of police Vinay Kumar told the media today.

The victim who was a right-hand man of another jailed gangster Santosh Jha had hit the headlines when his gang kidnapped a prominent Nepal businessman Suresh Kedia, brother of Nepali parliamentarian Vimal Kedia, last year while he was returning home after offering prayers at a local temple. The gang had sought Rs1 billion (Dh57 million) although the victim was rescued by the police.

Before that the gang had shot dead two engineers of a road construction company in Darbhanga district of Bihar two years back after the company failed to pay up extortion. Police believe the gangster may have been killed in gang rivalry.

This is the fourth incident of killing in the court premises in Bihar in the past few months. In July last year, a man was killed when a bomb exploded just outside a court in Bihar’s Rohtas district. Reports said the bomb exploded once the victim started the engine of his vehicle.

The same year in April, another under-trial prisoner was gunned down in the Muzaffarpur court premises while he was speaking to his sisters. Another two persons, including a woman, was killed in a crude bomb explosion in Ara civil court premises in Rohtas district in April 2015.
