Fire broke out last night at a coal mine operated by the state-owned Heilongjiang Longmay Mining Holding Group Co. in the city of Jixi, leaving twenty-one miners dead, while one miner was reported still missing.

Local news agency Xinhua said a total of thirty-eight miners were working underground when the fire first broke out late last night. Sixteen miners had a lucky escape while their colleagues were trapped inside the mine.
