At least 2 killed as dinghy carrying immigrants capsizes in Mediterranean

A woman and a child were killed and another went missing after an inflatable dinghy carrying 33 sub-Saharan immigrants from Morocco to Spain capsized in the Mediterranean Sea, the Spanish media report on Wednesday.
The incident happened Tuesday evening close to the Isle of Alboran, a small rocky outcrop, 90 km off the south coast of Spain.
It was reported that the dinghy overturned as Spanish rescue services were on route to reach it.
The 30 survivors were put on rescue vessel Guadamar Polimina and taken to the port of Almeria in southeast Spain.
The child was retrieved dead from the water, while the woman passed away while being flown to Almeria in a rescue helicopter. Efforts are underway to search for the missing people.
The Spanish rescue services were mobilized after they received a call from a charity worker that a dinghy had set sail for Spain from close to Charrana beach on the north coast of Morocco.
