International Olympic Committee(IOC) member, Nawal El Moutawakel, said that sports significantly contribute to social integration, and the consolidation of excellence, respect and friendship values, and IOC as well as the World Health Organization, since 2010, seek to promote healthy lifestyle and the practice of sports activities to reduce the risk of a number diseases such as obesity.
The former MP El Moutawakel stressed, in a statement for Arabs Today, the importance of sport, reflected in its contribution to the protection of young people physical and mental health, saying that we should encourage them on the need to exercise and adopt a healthy lifestyle, as well as physical activity, which has become one of the key priorities of the Olympic game.
The IOC is conscious of the importance of awareness-raising process to encourage the practice of sports and physical activities at all levels and in all parts of the world, she said.
She expressed her concern at the large number of young people who do not practice any physical activity, which may expose them to obesity and various diseases, warning that physical inactivity is a major threat to the health of populations worldwide.
