The US-led coalition continued its air campaign against ISIL with a total of 18 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq between 8:00 am. yesterday, and 8:00 am. today, local time, the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a statement on Wednesday.
In Syria, bomber and fighter aircraft carried out six airstrikes, all near Kobani, where they "struck an ISIL fighting position and destroyed eight ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL armored vehicle," CJTF-OIR said. Separately, 12 airstrikes were carried out in Iraq using attack, fighter, and drone aircraft.
The strikes hit ISIL targets near Bayji, where they "destroyed an ISIL artillery system," near Taji, where they "struck an ISIL tactical unit," near Ar Rutbah, where they "struck an ISIL checkpoint and an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle," and near Baqubah, where they "struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL building, an ISIL vehicle, and an ISIL recoilless rifle system," CJTF-OIR said.
Airstrikes were further carried out near Al Asad, where they "destroyed an ISIL vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED)," near Sinjar, where they "struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL excavator," near Mosul, where "four airstrikes struck three ISIL tactical units, two ISIL excavators, and an ISIL bunker, and destroyed an ISIL armored vehicle and an ISIL vehicle," and finally near Baghdad, where they "struck an ISIL tactical unit," the statement affirmed.
CJTF-OIR did not say if there were any casualties.
