Kanye West took a moment to apologize to the public for his opinions and the negative response that followed the tardy debut of his clothing collection, Kanye West x Adidas Originals, during a recent interview with Style.com.
While addressing the criticisms that ensued after his show opened late on Feb. 12, West asked for the opportunity to "explain something to everyone."
As for the collection -- a ready-to-wear line that features clean cut, simple pieces in earthy tones -- West said it was born from his desire to bring fashion to the masses.
"The least I could do is spend my time trying to give other people a piece of the so-called good life," he said. "Everyone should have the good life. It's like [Amancio] Ortega [founder of Zara] and H&M group. Before that happened, you could tell who came from money, who didn't, who had a bigger paycheck, who didn't. It was about separation and I think high fashion is about elitism and separation, and I am completely opposed to that."
Having said that, West also accepted that his interest in fashion, which began 18 years ago at a funeral, comes from the fact that he has an opinion.
"It's like voting," he said. "Fashion is merely an opinion. And I've got a lot of opinions."
