The Syrian regime continues to bomb civilians even during the cease-fire, said Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, Saudi permanent representative at the UN, on Tuesday, at a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir, Al-Mouallimi said such actions put a big question mark over the sincerity and intentions of the regime of Bashar Assad to find a solution that fulfills the aspirations of freedom and dignity of the Syrians.
The meeting to discuss the political future of Syria came at the invitation of the Kingdom with participation of representatives from the US, the UK, France, Germany, Turkey and Qatar. Earlier on Tuesday, Al-Jubeir led the Saudi delegation to meetings of the International Group to Support Syria.
During the meeting, cochaired by the US and Russian foreign ministers, the delegates discussed the latest Syrian developments, including the truce targeting deliverance of aid to the besieged people.
Meanwhile, the Saudi media delegation met with Khalid Al-Yamani, Yemen’s representative at the UN. Al-Yamani emphasized the major obstacles and difficulties facing Yemenis to resolve the crisis.
The journalists also met with leaders of the Syrian opposition, led by Riyad Hijab, chairman of the High Commission for Syrian Negotiations. The violations of the regime and its allies against the Syrian people were underlined.
The meeting also discussed the opposition’s decision to adopt the political transitional process document, noting that this document represents a comprehensive vision for solving the crisis and that it guarantees fair representation of the Syrian people.
The Kingdom’s efforts to end the conflict were stressed.
