Arab League Participates in Quartet Meeting on Libya

The Arab League announced its participation in the Quartet Meeting on Libya to be held in the Belgian capital Brussels on Tuesday.The Arab League said in a statement Monday that the meeting follows the first meeting of the Quartet hosted by the Arab League on March 18. It aims to continue coordination and consultation between the Arab League, the United Nations, the European Union and the African Union on the overall developments of Libyan affairs and work jointly to accompany the Libyans in the political process aimed at completing the implementation of the political agreement signed in Moroccan town of (Skhirat). 

    The Brussels meeting will also discuss security developments on the Libyan arena. The Quartet will reaffirm its firm position in support of all efforts to combat terrorism in Libya, its rejection to resort to the military option or foreign military intervention in the country and the importance of continuing the political process to reach the required solutions for the completion of the benefits provided in Skhirat agreement.

    EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, UN Special envoy to Libya Martin Kobler, African Union (AU) High Representative for Libya Jakaya Kikwete and Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit will participate in the Quartet meeting.
