Egypt Olympic coach Hani Ramzy has welcomed the statements of Ahly star Emad Meteb, confirming the U-23 team’s door is open to players from the first team squad. “I am pleased by Meteb’s statements, as he is a great player and deserves respect,” Ramzy told Ahram Online on Monday. Early this week, Ahly striker Emad Meteb announced he welcomed joining the Olympic team squad that is preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games under the helm of Hani Ramzy. “We will pick our squad according to the team’s demands” Ramzy added. The Olympic committee allows the U-23 team to make use of only three players from the first team squad who are over 23-years-old. “Including Ahmed Hassan in the team squad in the games against Sierra Leone and Niger helped the young players’ performances,” Ramzy added. “I concentrate on the players who have a strong character to lead the young players during the championship,” Ramzy concluded. Egypt reached the Olympic Games for the first time in 20 years after securing a 2-0 victory over Senegal to finish third at the U-23 African Championship in Morocco.
