Lahij security chief escapes death

Lahij security chief Adel el Halemi survived death after a booby-trapped car targeted his motorcade in Aden late on Wednesday, a security source said.

A 12-year-old boy was killed and nine persons, including six of Halemi companions, were wounded in the failed assassination attempt, Aden el Ghad newspaper reported Thursday.

In statements after the attack, Halemi assured Aden citizens that he is well, urging them to close ranks against terrorism.

Aden has lately become the scene of assassinations of security and military leaderships that were first carried out by bikes then later by booby-trapped cars.
