Yemen: Medical aid blocked from entering besieged area in Taiz

Yemen's High Relief Committee (HRC) has accused Houthi militants of blocking 64 aid trucks, leaving thousands of Taiz's stranded residents starving.

The aid trucks - which have embarked on journey to Taiz over a month ago through al Hudaydah port - are all besieged by the militants, Yemeni Minister of Local Administration and Head of the High Relief Commission Abd al Raqib Fatah was quoted by the Yemeni news agency as saying.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, James McGoldrick, has called for taking decisive action against armed militants that block the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Taiz.

He warned of a worsening situation in Yemen's third largest city after blocking the aid in light of the current salary suspensions and spread of diseases.

Meanwhile, fierce clashes erupted between Yemeni army and Houthi militants who attacked al Zunog district in northern Taiz, sources affiliated with Yemeni Popular Resistance Forces said.

Yet, Yemeni forces repelled the attack and forced Houthis to withdraw, the sources added.

Scores of Houthi militants were killed and injured during Friday clashes in Taiz and Hajjah governorates, while nine civilians were injured, the sources further stated.
