Arab coalition warplanes on Tuesday shelled positions of Houthi militants and loyalists to former president Ali Abdallah Saleh in Taiz city in southwestern Yemen.

Military sources said the planes hit targets in al Rawd al Rabie and destroyed a tank and a car repair workshop in western Taiz.

Meanwhile, the sources noted that fierce clashes have been going on late Monday between Yemeni army and their affiliate resistance forces and Houthis in Jabal Han and al Khalwa and al Sawdaa hills in western the city.

Houthi militants also fired artillery shells at governmental and residential areas in al Dhabab district in western Taiz, leaving two persons; a man and his wife, dead and other family members injured.

Taiz news network quoted Commander of the Western Front in Taiz Colonel Abdo Hamoud as saying that government forces repelled an attack by militants on the air defense camp and controlled the field in northwestern the city.

At least 15 militants were killed and scores of others injured during the fight, while three government elements were killed and four injured, added the commander.
