At least two civilians were wounded in a suicide bomb attack in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Sunday morning, police said. "The bomber tried to target the police patrol at around 9:30 a. m. local time in Bagh-e-Pul area of the city. The police intercepted the attacker but the terrorist detonated his explosive jacket, killing himself and injuring two civilians," the provincial police spokesman Zia Durrani told Xinhua. Security forces have cordoned off the area. The injured were admitted to a hospital, the spokesman said, adding an investigation was launched into the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group was likely behind such attacks. Kandahar is notorious for growing poppy and Taliban birthplace.
