Mogadishu - MENA
Somali forces backed by African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) have dislodged Al Shabaab militants from key port town in southern Somalia, the Shabelle radio reported on Sunday.
The dawn military operation saw Al Shabaab militants being driven out from the strategic port town of Marka, 110 km southwest of Mogadishu.
Soldiers from Somalia national army and AMISOM rolled into the coastal city, without encountering Al Shabaab resistance.
The port town of Marka which was first liberated from Al-Shabaab in 2012, has been in chaos and turmoil over the past few years as the city’s control changes in hands.
