The Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, ICLDC, part of the Mubadala Investment Company, is organising "Walk 2017," which will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi next Friday.
The event will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, with the support of the Abu Dhabi Health Department, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital and Health Point Hospital.
ICLDC is calling on the public to participate in the event, to take positive action, reduce the impact of diabetes and follow a healthy lifestyle.
The event is part the of a wider public health campaign to raise awareness about diabetes, titled, "Diabetes, Knowledge, Action," which is one of the first public health awareness campaigns in the UAE. The event, which will be held for the 11th consecutive year to help prevent diabetes and treat its symptoms, has achieved a positive change and has become popular within the Abu Dhabi community.
Lawrence Patrick, CEO of ICLDC, said that the centre launched the walking initiative in 2007, with the aim of creating a positive change in the Abu Dhabi community, reflecting their commitment to providing comprehensive treatment services for diabetes patients.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, highlighted the desire of the Council to support and develop community sports, with the aim of creating a healthy society.
