Steinmeier Sworn in as New President of Germany

Frank-Walter Steinmeier was sworn in today as the 12th President of Germany.Steinmeier took the oath of office at a joint session of both houses of parliament. The 61 year-old served previously as the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017. He was voted as President last month, to replace outgoing Joachim Gauck. The German presidency is more of a ceremonial role than executive, given that the country adopts a parliamentary system.
