South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed during a phone Tuesday the nuclear threats of North Korea The two top diplomats reaffirmed that they will closely cooperate to deal with the growing North Korea threats.

    Minister Yun during the talks emphasized that North Korea is getting closer to the final stage of its nuclear weapons development and called for Seoul and Washington's round-the-clock preparations to deal with possible provocations, according to (KBS WORLD).

    Identifying Pyongyang as an immediate threat, US Secretary of State Tillerson proposed prioritizing the North Korean nuclear issue at the top of foreign ministerial talks.

    The two sides also reiterated that the THAAD antimissile system is only defensive in nature and that the allied forces will proceed with the planned deployment of the battery on the Korean Peninsula.

    The South Korean Foreign Ministry said Yun and Tillerson will have more discussions to devise specific strategies to deal with North Korea.

    The two sides "vowed to continue efforts to make the South Korea-US relations the strongest alliance under the new US administration in order to be able to respond effectively to challenges posed by North Korea and its nuclear ambitions," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
