Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Allam

Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Allam said on Friday that an international conference on Iftaa (giving religious edicts) will help unite the Muslim nation under the umbrella of the moderate thought.

"Darul Iftaa has adopted the moderate approach and resisted extremism since its establishment," the mufti said during a TV interview.

Egypt’s Darul Ifta will be hosting the third international conference through the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide with the participation of multi-regional delegations from 50 countries.

The conference will be held on October 17-19 in Cairo under the title "The Role of Fatwa in Creating a Stable Society."

The conference will discuss a number of vital issues relating to the role of Fatwa in creating a stable society, investigating the deviant extremist Fatwas that undermine the communities’ infrastructure by inciting violence, murder and social unrest as a pretext justifying terrorist attacks.

It will also shed light on the protective measures that should be taken into account to eliminate the spread of extremist Fatwas and replacing them with the correct legal opinions.
