GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) has expressed condemnation and denunciation of the statement issued Tuesday by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei, saying that the statement included false and disgraceful accusations against Saudi Arabia.

The GCC countries expressed at the same time surprise at the Iranian Supreme Leader's statement that also included indecent words and offensive descriptions that should not be issued from the heart or the tongue of any Muslim, as well as a leader of an Islamic state.

GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani stressed in a statement Wednesday that GCC countries consider the statement of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the pilgrimage a public incitement and a desperate attempt to politicize this Great Islamic ritual that brings Muslims together in these blessed days in the Two Holy Mosques.

He said that the Muslim world is fully aware of the great and tireless efforts being exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leadership, government and people to arrange the Hajj Rite and to facilitate the hosting of pilgrims and ensure their safety.

The Secretary-General also stressed that the GCC countries reject the unjust media campaign and successive statements by senior Iranian officials against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the GCC states.

The GCC countries emphasised that these campaigns, and what they include of accusations and allegations, are completely incompatible with the values and principles of Islam which promotes compassion, love and brotherhood, and inconsistent with the principles of good neighborhood policy and do not help to build a constructive relationship between Islamic countries.
