The local affiliate of the Islamic State (IS) group on Wednesday carried out a suicide car bombing at a U.S. military convoy in Afghanistan's capital that killed eight Afghan civilians.
The IS-linked "Amaq" news website has claimed in an online Arabic language statement the attack which also injured 27 others including three service members of the NATO-led Resolute Support.
Three cars, including one armored military vehicle, were destroyed by the blast in the area where the U.S. embassy and Afghan Supreme Court office are located.
The blast which occurred at Makroryan-i-Duam near a road which turns to Shashdarak locality next to NATO-led RS headquarters at 08:00 a.m. local time also damaged several civilian vehicles and nearby apartment buildings.
Several injured remained in critical condition.
On April 13, the U.S. forces in Afghanistan struck an IS cave complex by the largest non-nuclear bomb in Achin district, eastern Nangarhar province, killing nearly 100 IS fighters and destroying a militants' hideout together with several bunkers and tunnels.
