Palestinian Presidency Friday welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s approval of an Irish resolution calling for establishing comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) overwhelmingly approved the Irish resolution, entitled “Comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East”, by a vote of 156-6, with 12 abstentions.
The resolution reportedly calls “the achievement, without delay" of lasting Mideast peace on the basis of U.N. resolutions and reaffirms "unwavering support ... for the two-state solution of Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security within recognized borders, based on the pre-1967 borders.”
This came after the UNGA voted down on Thursday afternoon a US-sponsored draft resolution to condemn Hamas for firing rockets into Israel and “inciting violence”.
