Four people were injured Monday in the blast that rocked a subway station in the heart of Manhattan, in what the city's mayor said was an "attempted terrorist attack."
"Let's be clear – this was an attempted terrorist attack. Thank God the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goals. Our first responders were there quickly and the only injuries we know of right now are minor," Said Mayor Bill de Blasio on his official Twitter account.
The New York Police Department was responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin on Monday morning in midtown Manhattan at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, according to the police department’s official Twitter feed.
According to the New York City Fire Department, all injuries are non-life-threatening.
The report added that police had taken one person into custody after his device partially detonated inside a tunnel.
Acoordignt to officials, the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah. He lives in Brooklyn and may be of Bangladeshi descent.
But a police tweet issued by the New York Police Department later confirmed that one man – who was injured – had been arrested, adding that there were no other injuries.
The MailOnline reported that a man was seen with a device attached to him with wires.
Early media reports said the blast came from a pipe bomb, and that several people were injured.
Police have declined to say what kind of device was used.
Some subway train lines there were being evacuated.
The New York fire department said it was responding to an incident at the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown Manhattan.
US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident.
