An explosion occurred inside a building in the city.

An explosion in a residential community in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has killed three people and injured another three, according to local sources.

The explosion occurred at 4:57 a.m. on the 14th floor of a high-rise building on Tuesday. Windows were blown out in an apartment on the 14th floor and the 13th and 15th floors of the building were damaged, according to Xinhua reporters at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the explosion was caused by a gas leak.

Other residents have been evacuated. Further investigation is underway.
