King Salman

Malaysian authorities said they have disrupted a plan to murder untold numbers of the Saudi royal family during King Salman’s visit to the country.

Ahead of the visit of Saudi’s King Salman, between February 21-26, Malaysian authorities arrest 7 people for plotting an attack against the visiting Saudi royalty. Four of the suspects are Yemeni nationals, while the remaining three individuals include a Malaysian and an Indonesian. King Salman arrived February 27 for his four-day visit.

It has not yet been made clear which insurgent group the Yemeni nationals might be associated with. For the past two years King Salman has played a leading part in the ongoing Yemeni fight against Houthi rebels in Yemen. His Royal Highness was visiting with twenty-five princes.

According to national police chief, Khalid Abu Bakar, the group was “planning to attack the Arab royalties during their visit in Kuala Lumpur.” The chief was clearly pleased with the performance of his team in apprehending the suspects before any harm could be done. “We got the in the nick of time,” he said to reporters.

Authorities confiscated approximately 270,000 ringitts, or around $60,740, in different currencies, all believed destined for the insurgent group. The suspects have also been accused by Abu Bakar of being “involved in distributing drugs.”

According to the same source, King Salman’s visit was the starting point for a month-long Asian visit. He is being accompanied by a delegation of 600 officials and 459 tonnes of supplies and equipment, including two Mercedes Benz S600s and two electric lifts.
