The Japanese government has frozen $4.4 billion worth of assets held in Japan by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his entourage in compliance with a UN Security Council resolution, Japan News Agency (KYODO) reported today. In March, the Japanese government subjected 18 Libyan individuals and organizations, including Gaddafi and the central bank, to sanctions based on the UN resolution and froze deposits, bonds and other \"various forms of assets,\" as a government official put it, in cooperation with financial institutions and other concerns.
