Italy gives Libya 4 patrol boats to stop the displaced

Libyan Coast Guard received on Monday 4 Italian patrol boats to strengthen Libya’s efforts in preventing the smuggling of displaced people to Europe. Italian Interior Minister Marco Menetti said while delivering the boats, that these men are qualified sailors who are capable of helping the Libyan guards to control the Libyan water and help Italy and other European countries to secure Mediterranean Sea by stopping humans’ smugglers and conducting protective operations against terrorism.

Menetti added that, 6 other boats will be delivered to Libyan Coast Guards during the next weeks. On the other hand, humanitarian organizations said that, the Libyan Coast Guards are threats to Rescue Teams and they also endanger the displaced, as they have already done that before. “Reuters” mentioned one of these incidents that happened last week, when a Coast Guard boat drove very fast in front of a “Sea Watch” rescue ship, which located a boat of displaced people and it went to rescue it.
