Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, Muqtada al-Sadr.

Iraq’s newly elected Prime Minister-designate Adel Abdul-Mahdi continues to meet with senior Iraqi leaders to discuss the formation of the new government and the selection of its ministers.

Abdul-Mahdi met with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr and the leader of the Supreme Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, as well as representatives from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and other party representatives.

The new government will include independent ministers and other representatives from major parties, who will be selected before the deadline Abdul-Mahdi set on October 24.

Experts pointed out that Abdul-Mahdi may succeed in his plans to form the parliament before the end of October because of the support he received from different parties and religious leaders, after political negotiations had previously lead to a dead end.

Meanwhile, Abdul-Mahdi’s media representative denied the authentication of lists being circulated on social media with the names of ministers, stating that they are meant to mislead the public.
