Can you tell a revolution in three minutes? Egyptian director and graphic designer Emad Maher did just that. His short film Revolution of Youth about the Tahrir Square uprisings premiers in the MedShort section of the 5th Corti and Cigarettes International Film Festival, to be held in the Auditorium della Conciliazione September 15-16. As its name suggests, this two-day festival is dedicated to the sevent art in its short form. Founded by Annamaria Liguori, Nicola Liguori and Tommaso Ranchino, the festival has two competition sections: International Shorts and Experimental Shorts. This year, the MedShort section includes work by emerging filmmakers from Algeria, Croatia, Egypt, Spain, and Turkey. Once the festival is over in its live version, it will continue online on the Corti and Cigarettes website, where users will be invited to view the films and debate on their technical and artistic merits. The idea behind both festivals, the virtual and the live, is to contribute to bring a new generation of Italian filmmakers to the fore, organizers said.
