University Hospital Sharjah, UHS, has hosted an important conference that looked into various ear, nose and throat problems, including vertigo, which affects about 15 percent of the population. ENT professionals gathered to discuss the latest updates and innovations in the field, share and acquire new knowledge, and network with fellow experts as part of UHS’s plan to improve health education in the country and region.
Experts from neighbouring GCC countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar took part in the two-day regional conference held at UHS on December 15th and16th, along with doctors from India and Malaysia.
Two parallel meetings were held for the participants; one on ear, sinus and facial plastic surgeries, including cochlear implants and the latest technologies, while the other involved ENT diseases and balance disorders.
Dr. Ahmad Munzer Alwaa, Head of the ENT Department at UHS, said, "Ear and sinus problems are on the rise in the region and hospital doctors and consultants see between 50 and 60 patients every day. Out of these, about five of them suffer from vertigo and dizziness."
