A long list of clients outside city pet grooming salons are going bow wow over their pets! "I own a Yorkshire terrier and a cocker spaniel and for me, they are my kids. I get their regular spas done with shampoos that match their hair types. I also make sure that they get only no-tear shampoo baths. Recently, on my terrier's second birthday, I got nail art done for her," says owner Shruti Tiwari. Tanya Kane, founder member of The Pawsh, says, "When these pets go for special events or parties, their owners get them to us with specific demands." Pet parties, and getting groomed to look good in them? "Yes, why not," she asks, adding, "Hair colouring and nail paint tops the list. A lot of people also demand for trendy nail art. Then, there are hot oil treatments, colour coat bath to enrich their coat and special baths to make their skin look fluffier. Pet owners are very concerned about the look of their pets and demand breed specific hair cuts. They are ready to pay anything for it." Dr Swagat Deshkar, owner of Animal Profile, has had slightly more unusual demands coming his way- which includes anti-ageing treatments. "Pet owners want a glowing pet. As a result, they come for various kinds of spa treatments. Hairfall is also a major concern in them." Swapnil Joshi, proprietor, Pets Den, adds that an array of other novel services have been started for pets. "There are flavoured shampoos, massages and hair cuts. On their birthdays, people even book cool places, get special cakes designed, buy clothes and treats as return gifts, birthday caps and much more." All of us have heard of pet hygiene, medicated bath, tick and flea treatment, d - matting and tartar treatment. But have you heard of breed-specific styling, streaking or herbal massage? Raajjhesh Cchandna, owner of Smaart Petsz, elaborates, "A lot of people demand for aromatherapy baths. Streaking and going for coloured nails is also popular. Many even get cuttings from the paper, and ask us to do styling as per that." When pets can go for coloured nails, why can't they wear trendy dresses too? "For pets, jumpsuits are in," he adds. But the love for their pets doesn't end here. Priya Sable, owner of Peppy Paws Pet Resort says that in addition to lovely hair cuts, she gets demands for hair colour too. "I once had a Russian poodle who had come with her owner from Bangkok. The owner wanted pink streaks on her ears. At our resort, we also get owners who spend the entire day swimming with their pets in the pool. Then there are birthday, pool and barbeque parties for them." She recently got a Havanese, who only drank mineral water and stayed in an a/c room. "One of my clients had dedicated an entire bedroom for her puppy with a cupboard dedicated only to his clothes. These pets are not just animals for us, you see." We can see that for sure.
