The dean of Zanjan Pharmacy College has announced 7 nano-medicines will be unveiled in the next 6 months. The Pharmacy College has been studying on seven nano-medicines over the past seven years, Mehrdad Hamidi told Fars news agency on Saturday. Hamidi said the nano-medicines, which are under production procedure, treat infectious diseases, Alzheimer’s, and hyperlipidemia. They are going to be applied against transplant rejection, as well. The nano-medicines will hit the market in the next six months, he added. Nano-medicines are pharmaceuticals prepared by manipulating matter at the nanoscale (< 1000 nm); i.e. manipulations at less than 1000th of a millimeter, and for drug delivery applications this typically takes the form of creating nanoparticles (5 ~ 800 nm) which are then used to package drug molecules and genes. Alternatively, some nano-medicines are created from the drug or more typically the pro-drug itself. However the vast majority of nano-medicines are the result of the packaging of pharmacologically active compounds within nanoparticles.
