UN, EU officials visit artificial limbs center in Matrouh

UN coordinator in Cairo Richard Dictus, accompanied by a delegation representing the EU embassy and Executive Secretariat for the Demining and Development of the North West Coast, visited the artificial limbs center funded by the EU in Marsa Matrouh, some 520km northwest Cairo.

The center contributed to alleviating burdens of people of Matrouh governorate and neighboring areas who lost their limbs in landmine blasts, Hala Rafaat, director of the secretariat, said.

Part of these limbs are being manufactured at the center as the cost of one of them range between 40,000 to 150,000 pounds, she added.

The center, operated by 16 technicians, was established in 2016 and has treated 69 cases so far.
