Transport minster inspects re-opened Wadi el Natroun-Alamein road

Transport Minister Galal Saeed on Friday inspected Wadi el Natroun-Alamein road that was reopened as of Thursday.

The General Authority For Roads and Bridges has finalized the paving and upgrading of the road starting from its intersection with Cairo-Alexandria desert road to el Alamein town, covering 135 kilometers.

With a total cost of 1.9 billion pounds, the renovation of the road was given the green light in September 2014, less than a year after its total closure in July 2015.

The road consists of six lanes - three lanes in each direction – to streamline traffic between Cairo and the Northern Coast.

Ambulance units were also established on the road; a unit every 20 km, in coordination Health Minister Ahmed Emad, the transport minister said.

Egypt's General Authority for Roads and Bridges has been authorized to establish and develop a total of 14 highways nationwide with length of 1,200 kilometer at a cost of EGP 17 billion. It is scheduled that the 14 highways will be completed by 2017.
