H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, today inaugurated the new building of the Sharjah Municipality in Al Masali.
In attendance were H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, other Sheikhs, chairmen of government departments, heads of municipalities and municipal councils and senior local civilian, military, and municipal officials.
The new landmark joined a series of other buildings, designed and built on magnificent Islamic architecture and decoration.
As he toured the building, Sheikh Sultan viewed the historic record which chronicles the government and municipal work in Sharjah City Municipality, one of the oldest in the UAE, which dates back to 1927. He then watched a documentary on the construction phases of the building.
The four-storey building was built on a total area of 100,000 square metres at a total cost of AED200 million and houses 200 rooms including prayer rooms for men and women, a library, theatre, activity halls and a parking area that can accommodate up to 250 vehicles. New innovative, green construction technologies on energy efficiency, lighting, ventilation and isolation, and sewerage were used.
Later, Sheikh Sultan honoured a number of government entities and contracting companies for implementing the project.
