President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received an invitation from Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez to visit his country, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef Tuesday.
The invitation was delivered by Uruguayan Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa during a meeting with the president in Cairo earlier in the day.
The visiting top diplomat hailed as strong and historical diplomatic relations with Cairo, which were established in 1932, Youssef said.
Sisi said Egypt is looking forward to boosting ties with Uruguay, especially in the field of agriculture.
He stressed the need for the two countries to continue consultations about regional and international developments, Youssef noted. Sisi particularly pressed for intensified international cooperation to fight terrorism, the spokesman further said.
The meeting also took up means to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Cairo and Montevideo, Youssef added.
The Uruguayan foreign minister was pleased with the pivotal role played by Egypt to achieve stability in the Middle East, the presidential spokesman said.
