Jailed former politician Rajesh Ranjan is currently writing a book on his personal experiences in a career that spanned two decades. The book is tilted Beat Me Ten Times With Shoes But Don\'t Call Me A Don. Ranjan is currently lodged in the high-security Patna\'s Beur Central Jail, serving life for the murder of Communist Party of India\'s Ajit Sarkar. Ranjan has often been in the news but for wrong reasons sometimes hiring killers to eliminate his political rivals, escaping from prison to campaign for Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, calling RJD ministers from his cell and assaulting officials. His behaviour earned him the nickname \"don\" as he alienated himself from voters. Ranjan\'s decision to write a book came to light after a raid on his jail last week, led by Patna City\'s superintendent of police S.W. Lande. During the raid the police chanced upon his manuscripts and seized them for investigative purposes. \"He is writing the book since he does not apparently want to be known as a don and detests being referred to by this epithet,\" said a senior police official who was part of the raid. According to the officer, the book graphically describes his ups and downs in life and politics. During the raid, the police found Ranjan was being treated well in prison. \"We saw him lodged in a luxury room equipped with three ceiling fans, three table fans, a TV, chairs, dining table and different types of clothes he even had arranged three prisoners to look after him,\" said the official.
