the Jordanian Constitutional Court

President of the Jordanian Constitutional Court, Taher Hikmat, briefed Rapporteur for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Josette Durrieu on constitutional reforms related to the Kingdom’s constitution.

Taher spoke about reforms carried out between 2011 and 2016 including the establishment of the Constitutional Court and the Independent Election Commission, pointing to a number of articles which aim at enhancing Judicial independence.

The judiciary system is a top priority for His Majesty due to his deep belief in this sector and its role in enforcing the rule of law and protecting the rights and freedoms, Taher said during his meeting with Durrieu.

The Royal Committee for Developing the Judiciary and Enhancing the Rule of Law, Taher said, submitted its report recently to His Majesty in order to promote the performance of the judiciary.

Durrieu highlighted efforts implemented by the court in this regard, which will contribute to achieving justice and equality that are considered a pillar of the civil state.
