Lieutenant-General Alexander Zhuravlev has been appointed as the new commander of the Russian troops in Syria, military sources revealed on Friday.
Zhuravlev has been appointed a while ago, the sources added.
The Russian commander was the Chief of Staff of Russian contingent in Lattakia countryside airbase.
Before being dispatched to Syria, Zhuravlev served as the deputy commander of Russia's southern military zone.
