World-acclaimed Georgian film director Rezo Chkheidze has died at the age of 88, local media reported on Sunday.
Chkheidze was born in 1926 in the Georgian city of Kutaisi. In 1943-1946, he was a student at the Rustaveli Theatre Institute. In 1953, he graduated from the department of film directing of the State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK).
He directed many films that have won global recognition. His most well-known film is the Father of a Soldier (1964).
