Gabon's incumbent president Ali Bongo Ondimba has won the presidential elections by garnering 177,122 votes, or 49.8 percent of the total, official results released here Wednesday by the country's interior minister showed.
Bongo's major rival Jean Ping, former chairman of the African Union Commission, came second by gaining 172,126 votes, or 48.23 percent of the total, according to results released by Interior Minister Pacome Moubelet Boubeya from the headquarters of the country's electoral body CENAP.
The results showed Ali Bongo beat nine other presidential candidates in the Aug. 27 elections.
