DFLP member to MENA: Egypt's role in Palestinian reconciliation file 'indispensable'

Member of the political bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) Talal Abu Zarifa said that Egypt's mediator role in the Palestinian reconciliation file is "indispensable".

In an interview with MENA correspondent on Tuesday, Abu Zarifa said that Egypt is a big Arab, regional and international power and its leadership, government and people consider as "central" the Palestinian issue.

"Without Egypt, the Palestinian division would not be ended and the national unity would not be restored," he said, expressing the Palestinians' adherence to Egypt's active role in this issue.

A visit by a Hamas delegation to Cairo last month is a step on the right track, he said, urging Hamas to benefit from this visit to put into effect what has been agreed upon during the visit.

He stressed the necessity of closing the door in face of regional parties that interfere in the Palestinian reconciliation file to achieve a special interest. He elaborated that during the 2014 war, the interference of Qatar and Turkey and other countries in the truce deal extended the war.

The truce was put into effect by Egypt's mediation, he made it clear.
