The 27-year-old beauty – in Hollywood last night before the Oscars – fears US TV executives are still unconvinced that her Geordie accent will appeal to viewers in the States. Cheryl had hoped X Factor supremo Simon Cowell would step out by her side during the most prestigious weekend of the showbusiness calendar. But yesterday she was left reeling after learning that Cowell, 51, had met up with Katie Price at a glitzy charity party event. A source close to Cheryl said: “She has never felt less sure of herself than now. “She has been waiting and waiting for Fox TV and Simon to make up their minds over the American job. “She hasn’t had any confirmation that she has landed the judge’s job. She is aware that American TV execs still have concerns about her suitability out there. “All of the biggest stars in the world are out in force this weekend and some people are telling Cheryl she should be trying to grab the spotlight on the red carpet but it’s not that easy. “There is one person who could make that happen, Simon Cowell. “But Cheryl hasn’t heard or seen from him since she arrived.” Cheryl flew to Los Angeles on Thursday but has spent most of her time in her hotel in West Hollywood with one of her brothers. She plans to spend some time at a recording studio in the city working on a selection of new songs. But last week it was again claimed that Cheryl was turning to Hollywood voice coach Bob Corff to help tone down her accent. And yesterday a senior source connected to Fox TV told The People: “Executives are still not convinced by Cheryl. “They are still worried she won’t hit it off with the audiences out here, and her voice is one of the main concerns. “The other is that she is still not recognised enough out here. She is not seen as a big enough name. “Simon Cowell is still one of her biggest supporters. But even though X Factor is his idea, it’s the executives at Fox who have the ultimate say over the make-up of the show.” Cheryl’s fears were compounded yesterday after it emerged that Cowell has been in regular contact with good friend Katie, 32, who made her name as Jordan. The X Factor supremo was seen chatting happily to her at a charity party in Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard on Friday night. A source close to Simon said: “I know he met up with Jordan. “Simon likes her, it’s no secret. They get on. As for Cheryl, Simon has no meetings planned in LA.” Friends say Cheryl has been left baffled and disappointed by Simon’s behaviour at a crucial time in her career. She knows he has been one of her biggest supporters in the past. The source added: “Admittedly Jordan is far more pushy than Cheryl but she is very disappointed. “Cheryl is now worried that it is all going to go wrong for her. “She has known from the word go that her accent could get in the way of things but it is quickly becoming a reality for her. “She wanted to get out to the States this weekend to get herself out and about but Simon isn’t there to help her.” Meanwhile Katie’s profile in the States has never been higher. Fans openly approach her on the streets and she is already being compared to US reality star Kim Kardashian, 30. As well as attending the high-profile Vanity Fair Oscar party tonight, Katie will also go to Sir Elton John’s post-Oscar bash. As The People revealed last weekend, she is also in the States to thrash out business deals. She is on the verge of signing a lucrative deal to for her new clothing range, Day 22, to be sold in US department stores. Katie has also held meetings over a role in a Hollywood movie and a reality show. Cheryl’s schedule over the next few days is believed to be less busy. It is unclear whether she has received invitations to any of today’s Oscar parties. Instead she has been left in further turmoil as she waits to hear from Fox TV bosses. The final line-up for filming which starts next month has been repeatedly delayed.
