US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter arrived in Baghdad Sunday on an unannounced visit to Iraq for talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al Abadi. 

Carter is also set to meet with commander of the international coalition to defeat Daesh Stephen J. Townsend to discuss the latest developments regarding operations to liberate Mosul, Iraqi sources said. 

Carter will also visit Arbil to meet Masoud Barzani, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, the sources added.
