6 April cleaning campaign Cairo – Akram Ali April 6, the Egyptian political youth movement has launched a 'clean up' campaign on Cairo's Main roads and squares in order to improve the city's image and raise awareness about rubbish disposal.  The young activists and the Minister of Environment took the lead in the campaign entitled "Eye Control, Hand Construct".
The April 6 members were welcomed by locals, who urged them to continue driving change in the country. In some districts, including Shobra el-Khayma, the movement coordinated clean-up efforts with district officials, who they told about the campaign.
According to the group's press release, tasks include spreading awareness amongst citizens and urging them to keep their own districts clean.  They group also encouraged people to recycle.
The April 6 Movement launched the campaign in Shobra el-Khayma district and said it was well received by locals, who encouraged the youth movement by supplying them with water and cleaning tools.
Some sections of the group also organised a protest in front of Cairo's el-Zawya el-Hamra district in the presence of some revolutionary coalition members, protesting at the accumulating rubbish in the area.
The April 6 group says it will hold another cleaning campaign on the 10th day of Ramdan entitled "Together Cleaning our City".  The movement has already started a campaign in Helwan to encourage people to clean their gardens.  The youths painted pavements and put up street warning signs, an improvement welcomed by Helwan gardens inhabitants.
Members of the movement in Cairo's Damietta area also cooperated with El-Nour and the Freedom and Justice party to organise cleaning campaigns across the area.
